Waris Dirie: Desert Flower

On the occasion of the film, I read Waris Dirie's A utobiografie "Desert Flower" and wrote a detailed summary and a review. A short biography of Waris Dirie and an article on the female genital mutilation I have some time on my website.

soon:
The nomad girl Waris Dirie was born in 1965 in Somalia. When Waris was five years old, had the mother cut it. 9 years later she fled an arranged marriage to relatives in Mogadishu. As one of her uncles was Somali ambassador in London, persuaded Waris him to take her as a maid. After four years, the uncle went back with his family in Somalia, Waris Dirie, but remained in the West and made a modeling career ...
Although the autobiography "Desert Flower" no sufficient literary standards is remarkable the book because it Waris Dirie has managed to sensitize the public to the world about genital mutilation.

Daniel Glattauer: All seven waves

After good against Northwind now I read the continuation " All seven waves of Daniel Glattauer . For two novels I wrote detailed summaries and reviews.

In brief ("All seven waves"):
two years, Leo Leike and Emmi Rothner cultivated a friendship via e-mail without a single time to take. Since Leo went to Boston, Emmi to receive e-mails to his old address, only error messages. After nine months he comes back, and although he now has a relationship with an American and Emmi is still married before taking the two their e-mail correspondence again - and arrange to meet ...
Daniel Glattauer composed in "All seven waves" with much wit a romantic and entertaining epistolary novel entirely from e-mails. The concept is not original, however, we know from good against Northwind.

Donna Leon: The girl of his dreams

The Novel The girl of his dreams. Commissario Brunetti's seventeenth case "by Donna Leon was widely panned. I think the book but for no masterpiece, but definitely worth reading.

soon:
Commissario Brunetti and Vianello Ispettore be called to a dead body floating in the water. This is a young girl, in which a clock and a wedding ring to be found. It might have slipped in a break from the roof. No one searches for the dead child, and there is a missing person's not there. Brunetti finds out that it is the eleven-year old Ariana Rocich is, whose family lives in a Roma camp ...
"The girl of his dreams. Commissario Brunetti's 17th Case "is not a thriller. Donna Leon it is in the quiet, pessimistic novel not about power, but socially critical reflections on the decline of the Italian State.

Frank Schätzing: Limit

Meanwhile, I read the 1320 pages thick new sci-fi thriller "Limit" of Frank Schätzing . If it is true that printed Kiepenheur & Witsch as initial print run 400,000 copies, it is definitely a seller like "The Swarm" , but I would imagine that many of the book to put down without it have all read too. - I wrote after reading a detailed plot summary and a review.

soon:
The oil companies are losing their importance as the Briton Julian Orley developed a fusion reactor and a method for the required Helium-3 cost to get a space elevator from the moon. During 2025 Orley group of potential investors in his moon hotel "Gaia" invites the cyber-cop Jericho Owen receives the order in Shanghai to look for the missing young dissident Chen ("Yoyo") Yuyun - and thus be the global group of conspirators "Hydra" on the track ...
The plot of the SF-thriller "Limit" by Frank Schätzing is trivial and less complex than it initially because of the inflated representation believes, and the 100 characters of the novel is more comprehensive personnel from stereotypes as from differentiated characters.

Eva Menasse: Vienna

It took a little longer, but now are the detailed contents and the commentary on Eva Manasseh: Vienna done.

soon:
"Vienna" is about a family in Vienna with Austrian and Catholic-Jewish-Slavic roots. The members it is not easy to their identities are clear. What can help them are the memories that are passed in the family. Eva Menasse uses these memories to the I-form, and instead make them fit in a linear plot, they can swarm it of quirky anecdotes.
In "Vienna" Eva Menasse are some brilliant miniatures succeeded with sparkling wit, but lacks the partially autobiographical family novel it to a gripping plot.
